Monday May 5, 2025 10:30 - 11:45 CEST DIALOGUES / TOWER VIEW (1st floor)
Speakers: Katja Hujo, Michael C. Huang, Michael Dittrich, Shuva Raha, Torsten ThieleTheme: GLOBAL FINANCE
Despite various international initiatives, sustainability agendas such as the SDGs and the green transition remain underfunded. While multilateral funds have increased contributions, they still fall short of financing needs. In this context, the UN is organizing its fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) to address these challenges, which will set the context of this discussion.
Given the urgency, exploring innovative financing sources and uses alongside FfD4 is crucial. These include international levies on aviation and shipping, blue finance for ocean protection, and blended finance for renewable investments in emerging markets and developing countries (EMDCs).
This expert discussion will delve into the different options and their implementation, stressing the concrete next steps required from different stakeholder groups to move the SDG agenda forward.
